When does Venezuela begin to get good news?
The Venezuelan government has promised to announce its first national sporting event on Monday, with President Nicolás Maduro saying he has asked for a “national anthem” that will be played during the event.
The country also announced plans to begin its “national soccer championship” this week, and is expected to hold a national football match on Monday.
The first match is expected on March 23, with a second match to be held on April 14.
Venezuela’s sports minister, Jorge Saldivar, told Reuters on Monday that the new national sports championship would “not be a sporting competition, but a national contest of the people.”
The country’s president, Nicolás Carstens, also told reporters on Monday morning that the government would announce the dates for the soccer championship in the coming days.
“Our sports are not just sport, they are an expression of the Venezuelan people, of the country,” Carstenos said.
